About the Group

Time: Every Tuesday 9 to 11 PM AST

Session A: Every other Tuesday. Critique of each others’ works (3 in total per session). Round Robin style of commentary.

Session B: The other Tuesdays. Reading 3 published poems a week using the same craft criteria we use for each other. Alternative hosting and group leadership.

Methodology:

The point of this group is to become better readers of poetry so that we can become better writers. The focus will be on craft as well as subject. None of us know it all; we can learn from each other, and by simple practice. There will be 3 poems a session (Type A), so if we have a large group there may be waiting time, but we always have the option of belonging to multiple groups. Multiple hosting is welcome. If you have a favourite author and want a session (Type B) dedicated to three of their poems, please take the lead and suggest it to the moderator. She will schedule you in. What counts as a poem? Good question. Hybrids, experimental pieces, traditional sonnets, spoken word, flash, concrete, sestinas, prose poems, they all count.

Uploading:

The group has a Google folder. Once you join and share your email with the moderator, she will add you to the folder. Only those added will be able to see the contents of the folder. You must use the email you provide to access the folder. You will be able to upload your work and read other people’s work. If you wish to make comments on the document, please do so as ‘suggesting’. You can also leave comments. If you don’t know how to make that happen, google it or ask.

Readings:

In the Google folder there will be a readings folder. The session date will be part of the name. You’ll find reading there for sessions. The readings will be there at least 2 days before the session. Please take note, potential co-hosts.

Zoom:

This is a zoom meeting. The link will be in the folder. The folder is restricted to members.

Note on Kindness:

This is not a support group, but it is a group for professional writers. Constructive criticism is the only kind useful to us. Kindness is essential to both life and work, and we all come from different worlds. Remember: you are up next. That, we all share.
