About the Group
- This is a silent writing time.
- Purpose: helping each other show up and write. (This is not a critique group.)
- We meet on Wednesday mornings for sessions that last 30 minutes.
- The current options: 7:15-7:45AM Eastern (as long as there is interest by 1 or more members); 9:30-10AM Eastern time; 10:15-10:45AM Eastern time; and 11:00-11:30AM Eastern time. (Subtract 3 hours to hop on with us at "your time" if you live on the West Coast. Subtract 2 hours to get Mountain Time, and subtract 1 hour to get Central Time.)
- Participation is come to whatever you can, whenever you can. People can come to one 30-minute session on a Wednesday morning (we've all been amazed at how helpful 30 minutes is!) or come to two or more sessions to build a longer block of writing time, according to preference.
- Each session is a small group of writers working on their own projects, but enjoying the company of other writers. Generally, there are 2 to 5 people present per session. People pick the time slot (or slots) that work best for them. Keep in mind that people can "show up" with their video off. We understand. It's early. :)
- Video optional, but generally no distracting activity going on. (Turn off video if you need to/want to, especially if distractions enter field of view to others.)
- Microphones muted except for a brief minute or two at the beginning and end of the session. (We are a friendly bunch! We like to greet each other and wish each other a good rest of the week.)
- People work on their own projects (NF, F, poetry, etc.).
- Goal-sharing (in the chat section) is optional. Writing down brief thoughts on a goal for the week or the session can be helpful.
- Questions can be directed to me through P&W messages during the week or in the chat during a session. (SJ Cote)
- Suggestions for how you might choose to spend the time: make bullet lists related to your topic; have a freewriting period on that new idea swimming around in your head; work on revising a chunk of a draft. My personal favorite habit is to work on a haiku or a lune to start my day. :)
