About the Group
Welcome. The concept for this group is simple: We produce work and meet to critique the work we produce. In addition to constructive feedback on style, plotting, etc we would share tips on agents, submissions, and publications. We'd also of course recommend favorite writers and works. I live in NYC so I’m happy to meet up around the city and/or do virtual meetings to make it convenient for members.
I have found that having deadlines and accountability via writing partners is great for all parties, and sadly I don’t see functioning groups like that here on P&W. (In fact, some “groups” don’t seem to be operating at all.) My taste in stories gravitates toward Sam Lipsyte and Julio Cortazar. I love the novels of J.G. Ballard, Raymond Chandler, Paul Beatty, Thomas Bernhard, and Patrick Modiano. But I’m open to most styles of short and long fiction. And I would definitely encourage people to try out new things here--that’s what a group is for, right?
About me: I’m a longtime writer (English major, short stories, journalist) with a enviro nonprofit day job who recently finished polishing my first novel. The past year was a crazy one for me and I fell off-track. But I’ve begun writing stories again and would love to workshop them. I also have the start of a second novel and would like to move forward with a complete draft. I don’t expect everyone joining to have a long list of publishing credits, but I do expect workshop experience and a seriousness about your work--and the work of other group members.
If you’d like to get to work, message me with a little bit about yourself (and what you want out of the group) and I will get back to you soon. Thanks!
