About the Group

A cento is a collage of other people’s writing. Traditionally, it involves none of the creator’s own words. The work for the creator comes from establishing a deep familiarity with the texts that form the basis of the collage. It also involves a clear and consistent idea of the theme, subject or emotional tenor of the collection you are creating.

This is a work-intensive 10-weeks. You’ll be doing a great deal of reading, thinking and very little of your own writing.

An example of this process will occupy week 1 and be drawn from the book called Wolf Centos by Simone Muench. The book is available from Sarabande Books and Amazon. A copy of the book will be displayed by screen-share during the first session.

The goal of the 10 weeks is to collect the pieces created and publish them in an anthology. Talks with a possible publisher are underway.

**NOTE You do not need to have taken Poetry 101 or 202 in order to complete this course.
