About the Group
This New York City area group preferably is to meet in person; open to writers 40+ in a "salon"-like environment — to share our work informally ( works first can be shared via email brought to the salon for discussion, whether live or Zoom).
Open to both prose writers and poets. Ideally, monthly one member would host the salon in their home (coffee? wine? snacks?) , to foster authentic connection. If Zoom is preferred, getting together for dinner occasionally would be welcome.
Writers should already have had substantial workshop experience, and/or be published.
We would also be gathering to help with problem solving; listening as a writer talks out a place in their work where they are stuck. And to share our working processes and general comradery; to break cycles of isolation as writers.
I am Sandra Tyler, author or two novels, Blue Glass, a NYTimes Notable Book of the Year, and After Lydia. My memoir The Night Garden: Of My Mother was published last year, and I am at work on my first poetry collection. I am also the editor-in-chief and founder of The Woven Tale Press literary and fine art magazine, and have had years of teaching writing on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. You can find out more about me at sandratyler.com.
Gertrude Stein was the queen of salons! She is always in the back of my mind. And as her salons were open to both artists and writers, we can explore separately, gallery excursions, Chelsea art opening evenings etc. In fact, The Woven Tale Press was founded on this premise: a place where the literary can meet the visual arts.
