About the Group

Critique group devoted to the craft of writing short fiction, including (a) short stories, (b) flash fiction and (c) microfiction.

The group is mostly devoted to literary fiction, but upmarket fiction within the following genres is also welcome: thriller/suspense, mystery/crime, horror and historical fiction. Not the ideal venue for science fiction, fantasy and erotica writers though.

GOAL: Turn our stories into publishable material, ideally get them published.

FORMAT: This is an intensive work group. After presenting the initial version of their short fiction piece (max. ~3000 words, either complete story or part thereof), each participant will share and workshop revised versions of it for critique and improvement, up to three rounds of revision. Whether we go through one, two or three rounds of revision of the same piece is to be decided by the author of the piece themselves. Two pieces—new or revised—will be discussed per meeting, with a total of thirty minutes allotted to each, with some leeway to Q&A-ing if things get hot and interesting. We’ll take a five-minute break between pieces. Meet weekly, time and day TBD. Total time for each session about an hour and a half.

Preference given to writers who are already published. An MFA is a plus but not a precondition.
