About the Group

Since my goal is to raise my work to publishable quality, I'm looking for a Critique Partner with whom I can exchange brutally honest critiques delivered in a kind, constructive, and respectful way. Together, we can aim to support the other writer in readying their work for submission to publications, agents, or publishers.

I believe all we can offer each other is one reader's opinion. Each writer is the complete master of their own work. What goes into or comes out of the work is entirely up to the writer.

People generally like my critiques because I take their work seriously and offer constructive suggestions. Several writers have thanked me in the acknowledgements of their published books.

Currently, I'm writing a memoir about raising my Queer, NonBinary kid (whose identity I fully accept & support). I've also written and published short fiction and CNF, and have an MFA in Fic & CNF. I moved to King County just before the pandemic and have difficulty finding local CP's. I've worked with CP's in other US states, Australia, Poland, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and would love to connect with local writers.

I'm open to working with English-speaking writers located anywhere, exchanging short pieces or portions of longer works every week or so via MS attached to emails. After marking up each other's MS with constructive comments and suggestions about what's working and what's not, we can email them to the writer.  We could consider having a video call to discuss or stick with written questions.

True confessions: I don't find comments given after someone has read aloud particularly useful because such comments usually are not specific. I prefer not to exchange MS via Google Docs after having a writer monitor my critiquing process in real time and argue with various comments. My practice is to comment as I read, then review the MS, editing or adding to my comments, and then write Overall Comments.

Also, while I generally prefer reading women writers and working with CP's who are women, I've worked with a few men who provided exceptional feedback. That said, I don't write shoot-em-ups, horror, Tom Clancy type books, or work that targets a male audience.

Thank you for reading and for your consideration. Please feel free to ask any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
